Discussion of issues concerning organization of the XI Days of Medicine of Karelia became the purpose of the meeting of the Minister of Health and Social Development of the Republic of Karelia Elmira Zilber with representatives of the National Health Center of North Carelia - Vesa Korpelainen, executive director, and Tiina Vlasoff, coordinator of frontier cooperation. In conversation there also took part the head of the department of social and economic development of the Administration of the Head of the Republic of Karelia Klara Shevchenko and the First Deputy Minister of Health and Social Development Alexander Balashov.

The first Days of Medicine of Karelia took place in 1993 in the town of Huhmari, Finland, and since then the event is organised annually, alternately in Finland or in Karelia. The previous seminar was held in 2008 in Petrozavodsk, and next is planned to be held on October, 20-21 in Huhmari. For a joint forum there will gather about 150 interested experts and representatives of public organizations of Finland and Karelia. Representatives of the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Russian Federation are expected to take part.
Issues of improvement in public health on both sides of the border will be traditionally considered at the forum. On behalf of Finland the Days of Medicine will be organized by the National Health Center of North Carelia and National Institute of Public Health and Welfare, and on behalf of Karelia – by the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the republic.
At the meeting in the ministry on April 30 projects of the program of the Days of Medicine prepared by the Finnish and Karelian parties, subjects of papers to be read at the plenary session, organizational questions were discussed. Presumably, work of sessions will be devoted to formation of healthy life-style, development of primary public health services, pressing questions of clinical medicine, information technologies.
Days of Medicine of Karelia should result in summarizing and definition of prospects for development of the further cooperation.
