On July 1, Lyudmila Kosyuk, Acting Assistant to the Prime Mnister of the Government of the Republic of Karelia and Chief of the Administration of the Head of the Republic of Karelia has made a statement to the press:

"On behalf of Mr.Andrei Nelidov appointed Acting Head of the Republic of Karelia for the period until the person invested with authority of the Head of the republic assumes an office I hereby inform that he has taken office. On his first working day Mr.Nelidov did not make any revolutionary changes and he was not going to make any.
"Mr.Nelidov has been working in the republic for a long time, he has experience of cooperation with bodies of the government of the republic, so everything is proceeding in a working order. Government of Karelia keeps working in all spheres of its activities. No changes are expected before the new Head of the Republic of Karelia assumes the office. Contracts with the Government Ministers are extended until the person nominated by the President of Russia and supported by the Legislative Assembly of Karelia is invested with authority of the Head of Karelia and the new Government is formed."
