A day after assuming the post of the Head of Karelia Andrei Nelidov went to Lahdenpohja region of the republic. On July, 23 he participated in start-up of a new drying line of Bumex Lahdenpohja Plywood Mill. Upon its commissioning by the end of the year there will appear about 70 new workplaces, and the enterprise itself will become one of the most advanced both in Europe, and in the whole world.

Andrei Nelidov has attended a service near the mill chapel devoted to the birthday of the mill, has taken a view of the entire production cycle of the enterprise, has had a talk with workers, and then before all the employees of the mill he has performed a mission of honour having pressed the new line's start button.

Start-up of the new drying line with automatic veneer classification became the beginning of implementation of another program of industry modernization meant to last till 2015. The volume of investments into its implementation will make almost half a billion roubles. Two years ago as a result of cooperation with the Finnish company Raute in Lahdenpohja there has been installed the fastest in the world rotary cut veneer line. Now the most modern drying line in which construction it had been invested over 100 million roubles appeared next to it.

This line will make it possible to almost triple production in monetary terms and to double labor productivity. At that the volume of plywood production will grow twice, simultaneously there will appear an opportunity to increase production of furniture. Production of Karelian enterprise is in demand in the world market — in the USA, Canada, Mexico. During the economic revival the new modern equipment will allow it produce unrivalled goods.

— It is not just a drying line, this is ultramodern equipment by means of which we will be able to achieve the highest parameters in history of the mill. We know, that governor of the republic calls mobilization of investments into economy one of the main tasks, and today's event is our contribution to this work.
It also a very important event for the entire Lahdenpohja region, as the mill is the principal employer and mainstay of an entire town. Head of the republic Andrei Nelidov has paid attention to it.

— For the first time for many years we have installed such equipment on Karelian enterprise which has no equivalents in the neighbouring Finland, it is better, it is more economic and less power-intensive, it produces goods of better quality, — Andrei Nelidov said. — All these features guarantee that its production will have selling in the market. It is very important, that advanced technologies appear in Karelia. This is exactly what we have to do to be the first among competitors. I am very glad that Karelian manufacturers are achieving the leading edge in the world market again.
— Both Russia, and Karelia should have the best and newest equipment. This is the only condition that makes the economy develop, — Head of the republic has pointed out.

In the near future, Andrei Nelidov noted, he intends to visit a number of enterprises of Karelia and, first of all, those donating regions on which future of the republic depends.
Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Valentina Pivnenko, acting Minister of Economic Development of the RK Mikhail Yurinov, secretary of the political council of Karelian regional branch of the United Russia party Anatoly Voronin and others have also taken part in the trip.
