On September, 20 Head of Karelia Andrei Nelidov has held the first session of the Presidium of the Government of the republic.

Presidium of the Government of Karelia was established in the course of reforming of the governing institutions. Its main purpose is to reduce bureaucratic procedures, to increase efficiency of decision-making and effective work of the whole government.
Besides the Head of Karelia, the Presidium includes his Assistants Yuri Kancher, Marina Nikishina, Valentin Luntsevich, Yuri Rafalsky, and Chief of the Administration of the Head of the republic Vladimir Khlebalin. Sessions of the Presidium are to be held every week.
The main issues discussed at the first session concerned organization of work of the Presidium, organization of work for conclusion of agreements on social and economic partnership with proprietors of the largest enterprises working within the territory of Karelia. However, before starting Andrei Nelidov has offered to discuss performance of his order to reduce the staff of the state machine by no less than 10%.
"We have completed formation of the Administration of the Head of the republic. Reduction has made more than 20%. Moreover, the vehicle fleet has reduced by more than 30%, yet all the state functions are being performed. We shall perform the same tasks with less numerical strength," - Andrei Nelidov said.
Members of the Presidium have reported Andrei Nelidov that work on reduction of the number of officials in ministries is conducted according to the decisions made. At that, Head of the republic has pointed out that reduction of personnel should not be made thoughtlessly. For instance, the number of inspectors of the State Housing Inspectorate which helps people to struggle for rendering them high-quality services in the sphere of housing and community amenities, on the contrary, has to be increased.
Andrei Nelidov's tasks anounced at the the first session of the Presidium are controlled by the Administration of the Head of the republic.
