The Visit of the Holiest Patriarch
Today, on the 18th of August, the Holiest Patriarch of Moscow and the Whole Russia Alexii II
has arrived at the island of Valaam. On the quay of the Nickolsky Skit he was met by the Head of the Government RK Sergei Katanandov with the spouse, the Bishop of Petrozavodsk and Karelia Manuil,
the Heads of the House of Legislative Assembly Natalya Kotsuba and Valentina Pivnenko, the Head of the local Self-government of Sortavala Valery Varya, the deputy of the Minister of Culture Tatyana Kalashnik, the Minister of Financies Alexander Kolesov and the accompaning officials.
The members of the official delegation took part in the grand ceremony of sanctification of St.Nickolay`s Temple in Nickolsky Skit. It was followed by the Divine Liturgy and also by the ceremony on Igumen cemetry.
The Head of the Government RK Sergey Katanandov also had a meeting with the people of Valaam island.
Tomorrow, on the 19th of August, the ceremonies, dedicated to the Holiday of Transfiguration will take place on the island.
After his pilgrimage to the island of Valaam the Holiest Patriarch of Moscow and the Whole Russia Alexii II sent a letter to the Head of the Government RK Sergey Katanandov.
