Province Vesterbotten Delegation Visit (Sweden)
April, 19 province Vesterbotten delegation (Sweden) arrived in Karelia with an official visit headed by the Governor George Andersson. Cooperation work between the two regions has been performed since 1994, when an agreement was signed with intention to develop friendly and mutually beneficial relationships.
First the delegation had a meeting with the Head of the Government Sergey Katanandov. In the course of the meeting the questions of further cooperation work between Karelia and the province of Vesterbotten
were discussed. On the same day the final protocol were signed and a press-conference was held. In the protocol both parties expressed their readiness to cooperate in the spheres of culture, sport, forest industry,
public health, information technologies, local power government, environment protection and living nature,
state government, rural district development, youth exchange and business. In particular, the agreement on
project of Sweden-Karelian business information centre in 1900-2001 was achieved. It will be funded by the province of Vesterbotten. The managing director of the Trade Chamber Roger Estefosh declared about the intentions of Small Business Association of Vesterbotten and Esterbotten in Finland to create an office in
Umeo to promote trade relationships with Russia in cooperation with Swedish-Karelian Business Centre in Petrozavodsk and Business Development Centre in Kostomuksha.
In the course of two day visit the guests have met the candidates for the leader of Business Centre, have visited school N3, where the Swedish language is taught, have met the leaders of Pryazhinsky district and have been told the first results of the mutual project realisation in the district "Non-Rural Development of a Countryside", funded by the Swedish party. The Deputy of the Head of the Province Vesterbotten Consul Ann-Sophy Lefstedt were acquainted with Karelian-Swedish children stomatology development project
and participated in the opening of a new dentists` office provided with Swedish equipment in Petrozavodsk school N5.
