Culture cooperation program of Barentsregion countries

includes 5 subprojects:

  1. Barentsfestivals and music in BEAR
  2. Dance in BEAR
  3. Literature in BEAR
  4. Fine arts in BEAR
  5. Training (culture managers BEAR)

Goals of the project:

Development of stable culture connections between Barents region countries

The period of the work of the project: 1997-1999, 2000

Karelian partners:

  • Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Karelia
  • Committee of Culture of Archangelskaya oblast
  • Committee of Culture and art of Murmanskaya oblast

Barents Euro-Arctic Region partners:

  • Committee of Culture of Luleo administration (Norbotten, Sweden)
  • Committee of Culture of Troms administration (Norway)
  • Art Commission of the Lapland province (Rovaniemi, Finland)

    Subproject realization:

    1. Barents festivals.

    International chamber music Kostomuksha festival was given the status of Barents festival in 1997. It has been conducted since 1987. As part of the project Karelian delegation visited the20th musical pedagogical meeting of Scandinavian Union.

    4-15 of July,1998 the action "Stockholm-the cultural capital of Europe" will be held in Stockholm.

    20 July-2 August,1998 seminars for young musicians will take place in XI Summer Academy Kostomuksha-98 in the framework of International chamber music festival.

    21 July-1 August,1998 youth chamber musical orchestra festival will be conducted.

    2. Dance in BEAR.

    In 1997 the raw of seminars on exchange of experience was held in the Barents cooperation regions. Some dance teachers of Karelia (Zaporozhets O., Vodinina L.) and their pupils took part in it.

    The actor of Musical theatre Schukarev O. was invited as a soloist in performance "Ascent from water", dedicated to Stockholm-the cultural capital of Europe in 1998.

    3. Literature in BEAR.

    The leader of the project is Gerda Helena Lindskug (Norbotten province, Sweden). The participants of Barents cooperation regions also take part in it.

    In 1997 the anthology "Time of Changes" was published including the story of N.Meshkova. The anthology "Children's Book is Part of National and World Culture" has been also published including the works by I.Vostryakova and G. Skvortsova on the topic "The Way to the Reader" as a summary of International youth and children literature festival held in the fall of 1997 in Murmansk.

    Presentation of one more children book "The Cloudberry Field" is planned in 1998. It will take place in Karelia in September of the current year.

    The 7 volume literature Barentsregion anthology is being planned to be published. The working publishing group includes the journalist D.Svintsov, the chair of the folklore department of the National Library RK N. Novikova, the writer R. Mustonen. All the activities of the working group, festivals, seminars and translations are paid for the project money and they are given by the Scandinavian partners from Euro-Arctic Region.

    4. Fine arts.

    The catalogue "Polar Art" was published in 1997 under the active assistance Kari Laine (Finland) in the frame work of the 2nd project "the Catalogue of fine arts", there is a CD-ROM version of the catalogue presenting Karelian painters M. Yufa, S. Tyeryenytyev, A. Morozov.

    All the participants were given CD-ROM version and one copy was passed to the National library.

    5. Training (Culture managers). The Euro- Arctic Course. A diploma.

    There has already been two graduations. 14 people from Russia has taken BEAR course including 4 people from Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Karelia.

    The 5 above mentioned subprojects of the Barents cooperation program in the sphere of culture and art cover the main guidelines of the activities. Realization of the project assist enrichment of different cultures. The content of the project is of great interest for experts and community.
