1. The bilateral Karelian-Finnish project "Development of medical and social service of the population of the Republic of Karelia under varying conditions"
Terms of realization of the project is 2001-2003, financing is affirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland annually, in 2001 financing has made 92 000 Euros, in 2002 financing has made 260 200 Euros, for 2003 the application for financing at the rate of 232 900 Euros of which the contribution of the Republic of Karelia will make 30 000 Euros is submitted.
Pilot territories of the project are:
Suojarvsky district, where the basic direction of work is creation of the complex program of development of social sphere at the level of the district, support to development of institutions through training of the personnel, providing the equipment, attraction of the noncommercial organizations and volunteers to rendering services.
Prionezhsky district and Vepps national volost participate in the project regarding development of work of institutions of initial public health services and creation of system of their interaction wioth each other and at the level of the district.
In Medvezhiegorsk district the support is rendered to development of institutions of rehabilitation of handicapped children and their relations with local authorities and noncommercial organizations. Training heads of the district, institutions and public organizations, equipment of the Centre of rehabilitation of handicapped children created during realization of the project will be accomplished in particular.
During the project the system of medical and social register with use of computer technologies and maintenance of information exchange between various levels of public health services and social protection will be created and approved;
2. TASK FORS Project of the countries of the Baltic sea "Perfection of preventive maintenance of infectious diseases of rural population of the Republic of Karelia under conditions of transition of initial public health services on principles of work of doctors of the general practice". (Partner in Finland is STAKES, the National Research and Development Centre for Welfare and Health)

566 000 Euros of which the contribution of the Republic of Karelia makes 60 000 Euros.
Problems of infectious diseases and their preventive maintenance remain. For this reason we consider it necessary to continue active work in this sphere and special attention we pay to cooperation with our neighbours and partners in the field of preventive maintenance of infectious diseases as they in difference, for example, from cardiovascular diseases, have no borders and directly depend on quality of life, and therefore consolidation of efforts of medical experts of various regions and countries is demanded.
The present project is developed with a view of rendering support to the Republic of Karelia on realization of the Concept of development of public health services, one of which basic directions are transition of initial public health services to principles of work of the doctor of general practice and prevention of distribution of infectious diseases.
Within the framework of the project the support is rendered to development of system of public health services of Kondopozhsky district, directed on creation of the model of organization of work on prevention of distribution of infectious diseases among rural population.
During the project training personnel for general medical practice and other institutions of the initial link and teaching them necessary skills of preventive work with the population and the initial help at infectious diseases will be accomplished, necessary training programs for educational institutions are developed and implemented, institutions are equipped with the necessary equipment.
As a result of the project recommendations for the state and municipal authorities on the aspects of organizational and legal maintenance of activity of institutions of initial public health services will be prepared in the field of preventive maintenance and the initial help to the population at infectious diseases.
3. The project of the WHO "Preventive maintenance of HIV/AIDS " (2001-2002 years, financed by Finland, the partner is the WHO)
Terms of realization of the project is 2002-2003, financing makes 2 million Finnish marks.
Serious concern of the Government of the Republic of Karelia is caused by illegal circulation of drugs and growth of narcotization of the population, especially of youth. The decision of the given problem, in our opinion, demands amplification of interaction for both bodies of all branches of authority in Russia, and development of the situation demands necessity of interstate integration on the given problem. During the project the support to the districts of the Republic of Karelia, in particular, to the towns of Petrozavodsk, Kostomuksha and Sortavala on development of preventive maintenance of narcotism.
4. The project of the Nordic Council of Ministers "Improvement of professional skills of workers of rahabilitation institutions for handicapped children in the Republic of Karelia"
Terms of realization of the project is 2003, Financing makes 136 200 Danish Crones
The purpose of the project is development of methodology of granting of services for handicapped children and their parents. The project develops social, medical and educational services for handicapped children and teenagers of different age. The accent is made on the complex approach to rehabilitation, and also on continuity of services between various sectors.
The project is realized in the form of the program of training of workers for rahabilitation institutions of the Republic of Karelia. The basic form of work is the innovational method of training on the workplace. The result of the Project is creation and approbation of the course which will allow to increase the level of knowledge and skills of workers of rahabilitation institutions for handicapped children in all the Republic in the further.
5. The project "Struggle against tuberculosis in Karelia" (Financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland. The partner from the Finnish side is Association "Lungs and health")
Epidemiological conditions in comparison with the previous years were improved, the tuberculosis sickness rate and other socially significant illnesses stabilized.
Terms of realization of the project is 2000-2003, financing of the project has made 956 thousand. The project is realized under the program of the World Health Organization on DOTS Strategy. The project is directed on revealing of tuberculosis cases through the method of smear and the further treatment of disease by short courses under the control of the personnel. The laboratory service of antitubercular clinic, phthisiatricians, the middle medical personnel and the population of Petrozavodsk and Medvezhiegorsk district are involved in the work. Within the framework of the project training is carried out and the necessary special equipment meeting the modern requirements is installed.
