January 11-16

• January 11 the First Substitute of the Minister of Foreign Relations RK A. Kuzmin took part in the inter department meeting , held by the Minister of Labor and Employment RK V. Bessonov. "On the measures to improve the social-economic situation in Louchsky district".
• January 12 the First Substitute of the Minister of Foreign Relations RK A. Kuzmin took part in the sitting held by the Substitute of the Head of the Government RK A. Krieger" On the check in point Lonka-Voinitsa located on the territory of Kalevala national district RK".

January 18-19

• January18-19 the MFR RK received the Ukrainian General Consulate in St.Petersburg delegation led by the General Consul V. Semenov. In the course of the visit meetings and negotiations with the leaders of Legislative Assembly RK, the Head of the Government RK, the leaders of the Ministry of Economics, Foreign Relations, Culture RK, the Head of Petrozavodsk Administration were held. The -problems of economic and culture cooperation between the Republic of Karelia and Ukraine were discussed.
• January 19 the chief of protocol department MFR RK A. Pavlov took part in the working meeting on the opening of check in point Syuvyaoro-Kompikanta on the territory of Lachdenpochsky district RK.

January 22-26

• January 22-24 the MFR RK received the Oulu Province delegation (Finland) headed by the governor E. Siurulainen. In the course of the visit meetings and negotiations with the leadership of the republic were held, the Memorandum on the development of cooperation between the Province of Oulu and the Republic of Karelia was signed and Petrozavodsk State University was visited.
• January 26 the MFR RK received the project of agreement on the cooperation work between the Government of the Republic of Karelia and Odesskaya oblast Administration from MFA RF, having been prepared before by MFR RK.

January 27-30

• January 27-28 the MFR RK acted as the organizer of the final TACIS conference on the project quot;Reforms of Public Health Care and Welfare Support in the Republic of Karelia".
• January 27-30 the Minister of Foreign Relations RK V.Shlyamin was on a business trip in Brussels (Belgium) where he participated in the capital EC of the Representative of Eastern Finland on the invitation of the boundary communities councils. V. Shlyamin conducted the negotiations both with Finnish leaders and the prominent representatives of I and XVI Departments of European Community Commission on the problems of efficiency of the programs TACIS and Interreg, concerning the Republic of Karelia. He also took part in the work of a special seminar, dedicated to the project of Euroregion "Karelia", where he made a report on our vision of Euroregion "Karelia" by the Government RK.
• January 28-29 the MFR RK received the Finnish delegation headed by the Minister on European Affairs, Minister of Foreign Trade of Finland O. Norrbak. In the course of the visit meetings and negotiations with the Head of the Government RK S. Katanandov, the First Substitute of the Head of the Government RK V. Maslyakov, the Substitute of the Head of the Government RK A. Krieger were held. The problems of investment cooperation between Karelia and Finland, the resumption of the flights of "Finnair" to Petrozavodsk were discussed.
• January 29-30 the MFR RK received a delegation of the company "Metsya Timber Ltd" (Finland). In the course of the visit the meetings and negotiations with the leadership of the Republic of Karelia and AHK "Karelesprom" on the problems of cooperation in the forest complex were held. The problems of the possible purchase by the company "Metsya Timber Ltd" of Segezhsky LDK being in the state of bankruptcy.
• January 29 the workers of the economic department of the MFR RK took part in the conference-presentation on the problems of the Republic of Karelia participation in the All-world fair of timber and wood-processing industry "Ligna", held in Hannover (Germany) in May of 1999.
